⭐ Good Practice Description:

The ‘German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure – de.NBI’ is a national, academic and non-profit infrastructure supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research providing bioinformatics services to users in life sciences research and biomedicine in Germany and Europe. The partners organize training events, courses and summer schools on tools, standards and compute services provided by de.NBI to assist researchers to more effectively exploit their data.

Success Factors:

Governance and Organizational Structure

The coordination across the eight locations is ensured by a special interest group that is in charge of training and support, as well as aligning architectural roadmap choices, such as launching or sunsetting services.

Data Governance

Users place request for resources, where they describe the project and whether they use sensitive data or not. de.NBI then sets up a tenant for the user for the project, and let the user configure the resources and give access to others. Being able to delegate access to the system and allowing people to use the institution account is a huge driver for research consortia.
