⭐ Good Practice Description:
The PLEDGER (Performance optimization and edge computing orchestration for enhanced experience and Quality of Service) project aims at delivering a new architectural paradigm and a toolset that will pave the way for next generation edge computing infrastructures.
Success Factors:
Business Success | The project has created a User Group. This is an initiative that external stakeholders can join by signing a MoU. In this way external stakeholders can make limited use of PLEDGER resources, including software, infrastructure and documentation with the compromise of not sharing any confidential information and provide feedback about the proposed solution. |
---|---|
Technology Innovation | The PLEDGER platform includes blockchain technologies for securing microtransactions and develop smart contracts at user level. It does not directly address energy efficiency considerations. However, a proper service placement on the edge or on the cloud can also improve the energy consumption at software level. |

Strategic Goals
Current approaches are not sufficient to address the massive usage of edge computing, especially in the frame of large IoT deployments in smart cities and industrial applications.
The main goal is to ensure that the overall offered Quality of Service (QoS) fits the application needs over the edge or edge/cloud deployment.
Solutions Developed / Used
Pledger delivers a new architectural paradigm and a toolset that will pave the way for next generation edge computing infrastructures, tackling the modern challenges faced today and coupling the benefits of low latencies on the edge, with the robustness and resilience of cloud infrastructures.
